Aqua Patch repair sequence

Stage 01

Pour Aqua Patch

Empty the bag directly into the pothole. The bag is ready to use — no mixing or heating.

Stage 02

Sweep flat

Sweep or rake the product level across the hole, leaving a shallow allowance above the surface for compaction.

Stage 03

Pour water

Pour at least 1 L of water per 20 kg bag; 2 L is a safe field rate. Excess water is acceptable.

Stage 04

Stamp flat

Compact immediately after watering. Drive over the repair straight away; it is hard as a rock an hour later. Allow about 2 hours at intersections and turning areas.

What is Aqua Patch?

A cold-mix repair product activated by water.

Aqua Patch is a high-performance, water-activated cold-mix repair product for asphalt and concrete surfaces. It is supplied ready to use in 20 kg bags — no mixing, heating or special plant required.

Made in Japan, Aqua Patch combines a graded hard-stone aggregate with a proprietary plant-based binder. It contains no petroleum-based solvents. Water triggers the chemical reaction that hardens the mix, rather than waiting for a solvent to evaporate.

Aggregate
A precise blend of quality crushed hard stone (such as limestone or granite) and sand. 5 mm and 13 mm nominal mixes, February 2026 technical data.
Binder
A proprietary, plant-based organic binder. It contains no petroleum-based solvents and hardens through a chemical reaction with water. Approximately 50% of the asphalt binder is replaced with bio-based material.
Suited for all Australian conditions
Made in Japan using sustainable practices, Holds tough in all Australian conditions from extreme heat to torrential rain.
Packaging
60 × 20 kg bags per 1.2 t pallet; pallet dimensions 1,100 × 1,100 × 800 mm. Do not stack pallets; maximum 10 bags high when storing loose bags.

Strengths

Built around wet-weather repair and fast reinstatement.

A permanent, water-activated patch that can be opened to traffic immediately and reaches hot-mix-like strength without heating or solvents.

  • Water-activated and weatherproof

Install in the rain, or pour directly into a water-filled pothole. No pumping required.

  • Traffic-ready immediately

Drive over it straight after watering and compaction. Hard as a rock an hour later. Allow about 2 hours at intersections and turning areas.

  • Durable, permanent repair

Independent testing shows 5.0 kN Marshall stability and 1,900 MPa resilient modulus after 7 days. Wheel-track rut just 1.5 mm after 24 hours conditioning.

  • Non-toxic, low-impact binder

A bio-based binder replaces around 50% of the asphalt binder. No petroleum-based distillate solvents; no hydrocarbon leaching or evaporation per the SDS.

Comparisons

How it differs from conventional repair methods.

Generic category comparisons, based on the product format and manufacturer information. Individual site conditions and methods vary.

Aqua Patch vs traditional cold-mix asphalt

Traditional cold-mix asphalt

Relies on solvent evaporation to cure, stays soft for months, tracks onto tyres and is often pushed out of the hole, leading to repeat repairs.

Aqua Patch

Water-activated chemical reaction; cures solid with no sticky residue.

Aqua Patch vs hot-mix asphalt

Hot-mix asphalt

Needs heating, heavy plant, specialised crews and complex logistics; must be placed before it cools.

Aqua Patch

Ready to use in a bag; no heat or heavy plant; one person with a shovel, water and a tamper can apply it.

Use cases

Small-batch repairs, reactive maintenance and reinstatement.

Aqua Patch is suited to localised pavement defects and reinstatement work where a fast, contained repair is needed.

01Technical situations

  • Pothole and rut repairs

Localised surface defects in asphalt pavements, including water-filled potholes.

  • Utility cuts and trench reinstatements

Small reinstatement areas around service trenches and utility openings.

  • Manhole and service cover levelling

Edge repairs and localised levelling around covers and frames.

  • Driveway and pavement trip-hazard levelling

Shallow surface defects and uneven transitions in pedestrian and vehicle areas.

  • Water-filled pavement craters

Repairs where standing water is present and pumping is impractical.

02Locations

  • Highways and arterial roads

Subject to road authority approval, TTM requirements and site-specific specifications.

  • Local council streets

Reactive patching and small-batch maintenance across urban and regional networks.

  • Commercial car parks and industrial loading docks

Localised repairs where fast reinstatement matters and heavy plant access is limited.

  • Residential driveways and body corporate roads

Small, contained repairs using basic hand tools.

  • School grounds and public parks

Repair of localised surface hazards in controlled-access areas.

How to use it

No mixing. No heating. No special tools.

Five steps, one person and a standard hand tamper. The method is deliberately simple; site-specific requirements still apply.

Tools required

A shovel or rake, water, and a hand tamper. That is the basic kit.

  1. 01

    Clean

Sweep out loose debris, dirt and large rocks. Standing water does not need removing.

  2. 02

    Pour Aqua Patch

Empty the bag into the hole. For holes deeper than 50 mm, place and compact in layers.

  3. 03

    Sweep flat

Sweep or rake the product level, leaving about 30% above the surrounding surface for compaction — roughly 15 mm on a 50 mm repair.

  4. 04

    Pour water

Pour water evenly over the patch — at least 1 L per 20 kg bag. 2 L is a safe field rate, and excess water is acceptable.

  5. 05

    Stamp flat

Compact immediately after watering. Drive over the repair straight away; it is hard as a rock an hour later. Allow about 2 hours at intersections and turning areas.

FAQ

Common questions.

Common questions answered from the current technical documents. Contact us for project-specific advice.

View all frequently asked questions
Can it be used in the rain?

Yes. Aqua Patch is water-activated and can be applied in wet conditions or directly into a water-filled pothole. Excess water is acceptable; standing water does not need to be pumped out.

How soon can I drive over the repair?

Straight-line traffic can drive over the repair immediately after watering and compaction. It is hard as a rock an hour later. Allow about 2 hours at intersections and in areas where wheels turn on the patch.

How much water does it need?

Use at least 1 L of water per 20 kg bag. Around 1.5 L is typical, and 2 L is a safe field rate. Excess water will not damage the repair. The site calculator uses 2 L per bag as a conservative allowance.

What is the shelf life?

Unopened bags have a 12-month shelf life from the manufacturing date. Once opened, use the bag promptly and seal any remainder tightly; moisture in the air will begin the curing reaction.
